Day Twenty-Nine

We needed a savior, so the One True God became our Savior. (1 Timothy 4:10) Jesus Christ didn't die just in case we needed a savior. The awful truth is everyone needed to be saved from their sins; if there was no savior we would all be paying for our own sins in hell. (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9) The word savior means: a deliverer, preserver, one who saves from danger or destruction, and brings into a state of prosperity and happiness.

Jesus willingly stepped out of eternity to became our Savior, to deliver us from the all-consuming power, punishment and guilt of sin, and to give us His righteousness. He also brings the prosperity and happiness of eternal life to us. (Ephesians 2:1-10;) Is Jesus your Savior? Believe in Him and He will be!

Is it not I, the LORD? And there is no other God besides Me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none except Me. Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth ...But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by ... renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Isaiah 45:21-22; Titus 3:4-7 NASB®

The name of Jesus means savior. The word savior means to deliver, to save, to get help, to defend. The angel told Joseph, Mary's husband, in a dream to name the Child that was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Jesus. This is because He will save His people from their sins. angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, " not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: "BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US." And Joseph...did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus. Matthew 1:18-25 NASB®

Jesus is also called Immanuel, because He is the One True God, Who became flesh to be with us. (Isaiah 7:14, 9:6)

As our Savior, God didn't just save us from our sins but He brings contentment and a victorious life to us. (Psalm 91; John 10:10, 16:33; Romans 8:28) When your well-being is being threatened, or possibly your very life, God is there to save you. If you are struggling with a job, or perhaps your finances, God will sustain you. Maybe you are feeling miserable, overwhelmed, or anxious from emotional or physical struggles, then go to God. He wants to support you. God your Savior is waiting for you to call upon Him for help! (Psalm 7:1; Isaiah 30:18; Philippians 4:6-7)

Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ...But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Romans 8:34-37 NASB®

Because of my Savior, Jesus, I have conquered my lack of self-confidence, and many more weaknesses and sins in my life. I can sincerely say, He has help me triumph over many of the things that held me back, from being what I should be in Him. What has Jesus helped you conquer in your life?

God is called, the LORD of hosts, or LORD Almighty, many times in the Old Testament. This name means deliverer too. It also has the idea of might and power in it. God is our powerful King and warrior, Who rules the entire universe, yet He is ready to deliver us at the cost of His own life. (Zechariah 4:6)

It will become a sign and a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the LORD because of oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Champion, and He will deliver them. Isaiah 19:20 NASB®

Life Application:

God your deliverer is described in Psalm 91. Read Psalm 91. From this passage, describe how God delivers and protects us.

Write down any other insights you have from reading this Psalm.

When my son was in Iraq, I was constantly praying for him. God used Psalm 91 to reassure me He would deliver and defend my son from harm, and God did.

Write a paragraph on what it means to you that the One True God is your Savior.

Take some time to thank Jesus for being your Savior.
