Day One: You Must Know the One true God

Where did I get my information for this daily devotional on God’s characteristics and names? I wrote several studies called, Consider Jesus and A Common Sense Bible Study on Loving God, Others, and Self to teach at our church and in the community some years back; the Bible study, God Loves You and Me which is posted on BecauseofGod.com. All 3 studies are the foundation of this daily devotional. I have also written and taught various other studies on God’s characteristics and names. I want to acknowledge authors I have read that have given me and many others insight into Who God is: A.W. Tozer, the author of The Knowledge of the Holy. Kay Arthur, the author of LORD I Want To Know You.

Background of Daniel the prophet, the man who wrote the book of Daniel in the Old Testament. Daniel was taken captive by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon when he was about 15 years old, with a number of other people. This was during the siege of Jerusalem in the year 605 BC. Daniel knew the One True God and served Him while he was in captivity from 605 BC until about 536 BC when he died. (This would place him under King Cyrus of the Medo-Persian Empire at the time of his death.) Daniel's godly influence changed kings and kingdoms, and God used Daniel to outline the future of our world's history for us. A few of the kings came to know the One True God through Daniel, and made him a "wise man" and / or a head ruler in their kingdoms - King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon being the main one. When Daniel was put into the Lion's den, he was in his eighties.

Day Twenty-four: The One True God is the God of Forgiveness

What does forgiveness mean from God's perspective? To forgive or to be forgiving means to not keep account of wrongs, to send forth, let go from oneself. Forgiving also has the idea of treating the offending person graciously, with kindness, love (1 Corinthians 13:5).

Don't misunderstand forgiveness from the Bible: Some people think if they forgive, they are saying, what the person did was acceptable. That is not what forgiveness means. When you forgive someone, you make the choice to give up your desire to get back at the person, and to let go of your anger towards the person (Romans 12:17-21). You also stop judging the person who caused you the hurt. Instead of revenge, anger, and judgment, you show grace and kindness (Luke 6:35 -38). In other words, the guilty person may not deserve forgiveness, but it's an act of kindness on your part to forgive (Ephesians 4:32). When you forgive, you are not condoning the person's sinful action, but you are letting it go from yourself. When you forgive someone, it doesn't mean the person won't experience the consequences from their behavior.
